Attapulgite is a unique clay mineral with a wide variety of industrial uses.
It is used as a thickener and suspending agent for salt solutions in well drilling. In drilling mud attapulgite is solely used for its suspending qualities. Usually it is applied in mud of higher salinity than sea water, can also be used in the preparation of high filtration slurries to prevent loss of circulation.
